Master Computer Science – Curriculum 2023

Alternative Course for 911.411 UV Enterprise Computing academic year 2026/27

As the above-mentioned compulsory course is not being offered this year, you may choose the following course as an alternative and have it credited/recognised:

911.264 UV WFM: Advanced Topics in Data Analytics

When registering for the course in PLUSonline, you can select one of the groups listed below:

  • group 1 - Artificial Social Networks

    • Introduces algorithms for analysing social network graphs, identifying structural and spectral characteristics, and reconstructing synthetic graphs that preserve these characteristics.
    • By A. Yadav
    • Tuesdays 3:00 p.m. - 5 p.m. - lab

  • group 2 - Compressed Data Structures for Query Processing

    • Covers bitmap indexes, compressed and succinct representations, decision diagrams, and experimental evaluation of data structures.
    • By A. Bolotina
    • Tuesdays 12:00 p.m. - 2 p.m. HS I / HS II

IMA/IMB - Individual Elective Module A and B

The curriculum stipulates for IMA/B:

Selection of courses in the range of 6 to 15 ECTS from

  • non-selected elective modules
  • specially marked courses ("WFM: ...")

Non-selected elective modules

It is not possible to complete a specific elective module (such as EM8 HCI, worth 10 ECTS) and also use courses defined within that module to fulfill the requirements for one or both individual elective modules!

However, you may either - Complete the respective elective module (e.g. HCI) and select the remaining (HCI) courses as free elective courses (totaling up to 6 ECTS) or - NOT USE the (HCI) elective module, and distribute all (currently up to 21 ECTS within the HCI elective module) among the two IMA/B modules (or, of course, use some of them as free elective courses)

Specially marked courses

  1. Starting in the 2026/27 academic year, all compulsory courses (except the seminar in CS) will be credited within the Individual Elective Module (categorized as “specially marked courses,” though without the “WFM:” prefix in their names).

  2. WFM seminars may continue to be used for the individual modules.

  3. One or more WFM seminars may be credited as a seminar in CS provided that the total ECTS credits are equal to or greater than the required amount.

Transition Period

For all course credits pertaining to courses up to and including the summer semester of 2026, we will allow all compulsory courses (including the seminar in Computer Science) to be included in the individual study plan. Our aim is to ensure that students who have followed previous practices in good faith are not hindered in their academic progress.

Recognitions (Transfer of Credits)

No recognition – Module assignment

Recognition is generally not required when courses already completed are to be used in another module (e.g., a non-selected compulsory course for an individual elective module). The assignment is carried out by the Examinations Office (Prüfungsreferat).

Curriculum Change

When switching to a new curriculum, some course assignments may be lost. In this case, a semi-automatic reassignment is first carried out by the Examinations Office (Prüfungsreferat). Achievements that cannot be assigned may, in some cases, be used through a recognition process. In the second step, please contact anrechnungen.informatik@cs.plus.ac.at for assistance.

Recognition of Previously Acquired Academic Achievements

Regular students have the opportunity, under certain conditions, to have previously acquired academic achievements (successfully completed examinations) recognized, provided they were completed at a recognized post-secondary educational institution or a higher technical and vocational school (HTL).

Courses Completed at the University of Salzburg

Please submit an application in PLUSonline according to the guidelines. Send the application you confirmed online, signed as a PDF, to anrechnungen.informatik@cs.plus.ac.at.

Courses Completed at Other Post-Secondary Institutions (e.g., University, University of Applied Sciences)

Please send an email to anrechnungen.informatik@cs.plus.ac.at explaining the recognitions you intend to apply for and attach all documents necessary for assessment (transcript, official module/course descriptions). For more extensive recognitions, please also complete the form. This serves as a proposal and an initial basis for discussion regarding the recognition process.

Free Elective Courses

These can generally be freely chosen from the course offerings of all recognized post-secondary educational institutions and serve to acquire additional qualifications and establish an individual academic focus within the degree program. Procedure: As described above..

Exceptions

Courses that are explicitly defined in the curriculum as mandatory prerequisites, foundation modules, or core modules required for further progress in the study program cannot be recognized.
